Over the weekend, my friend Karen and I had our “Movie Night”. We are making a new tradition. Since I don’t really have a life (except when I am away teaching), this is my big night out about every 3 weeks. The first time we did this, we ordered pizza delivery and watched Patsy Zowakowski’s video on spinning cotton and flax. This week Karen got Thai food, and I brought decadent chocolate dessert. The point of this is actually NOT the eating part, but to get together, have fun, and actually look at those DVDs and videos we bought oh so long ago. You know, to learn something! We were going to watch Mabel Ross’ video on spinning, but as my brain was fried from reading (and finishing) Harry Potter almost non-stop, we watched some sillly movie on her Tivo. Hmm, didn’t learn much, but had a good time. This is what I am working on right now:

It’s weird (but fun) to be knitting my own Fana sock pattern again after all these years! I am using Louet’s Gems Merino. SO yummy and very nice to work with!
I think it is a good thing to schedule fun. If I don’t I just stay home and work.
Many of us work too hard ALL the time. Knitting is great, and even better in company! The next time we have movie night, I think we’ll watch one of my 6 Lucy Neatby DVDs. She is so fun and upbeat, and I always learn something from her. I do recommend her series. Do any of you out there have movie/ knitting night with friends?
And, I won’t whine too much about this, but my soon-to-be-ex could never quite let himself spend money on flowers for me. I don’t mean a single flower…I mean a good ol’ fashioned dozen. I love roses so much that for awhile there I bought them for myself. Well, what a surprise! This lovely bunch was given to me by my daughter, Chelsea. How I cherish them! And her!

Hi! I’ve been working through your sampler gansey from “Knitting Ganseys” as my “Tour de France knitalong” project and am just having a blast learning about how to make ganseys, so when I saw that you had a blog, I figured I just had to take the opportunity to stop by and say hello and thank you!
Somehow I’ve never come across the pattern for the Fana sock…that one’s going on my “to-knit” list for sure!

Like the previous commenter, when I discovered you that you have a blog, I had to come by. I love that sock! Where might we find the pattern?
Ah, the soon-to-be-ex… My practice husband was the same. The only time he would ever splurge on flowers was when our children were born. We have three.
The man I married three years ago doesn’t often buy flowers, but his kindness and consideration more than make up for the lack of flowers. Plus, there are days I come home from work to find hand picked flowers on the kitchen table, and that’s almost as good (and cost much less).
A movie night with a knitting friend… now, that sounds like a real treat!

Roses from your daughter – what a double delight! And nothing wrong with buying flowers for yourself, either. You certainly deserve them.
The sock is gorgeous. Let me see if I have that pattern. I actually think I do, but if not, well it’ll make its way to my list.
I’ll have to ditto your comments on Lucy’s series of DVDs. We’ve been talking about a movie night at the LYS and I’ve offered my collection, since I have them all. I’m going to bring it up again – thanks for the reminder!
Good message from you here – we all need to take time to treat ourselves and have fun.

Thanks all for your comments! My Fana sock (shown in navy and white on my website is available from many of the vendors listed on the page Ordering Information.
Oh, I didn’t mean to sound so cynical about men–I am so happy when people find someone wonderful and remarry!

You always inspire me – I’ve been wanting to knit something with two colors as soon as I finish my latest lace shawl – now I think I’ll knit a cowl using your fana sock pattern! Many thanks and all the Best!

Hello! It’s fun to see our Norwegian pattern being used abroad, and the Fana-pattern sure is beatiful! I’ve knitted a lot of sweaters in this pattern for many years. The last two were for my grandkids.
I stumbled upon your webpage and blog trying to find an English translation for the Norwegian word “toving”, and it seems that the correct word is felting or maybe fulling. I’ve been knitting 4 pair of Lovikka mittens yesterday – for sale, so that’s why I try to find the correct translation. Who knows they just might wind up in the US. ;o)
Best wishes from Norway,
Merethe
