All the literature that I have run across states that The Lovikka Mitten was developed in northern Sweden by a woman named Erika Aittamaa in 1892. But, hey, who really knows? Thanks especially for the Lovikka mittens-pattern in Knitting traditions - though those mittens are traditional Finnish, not Swedish.. :) Both the term lovikka and the name of the inventor in the pattern are Finnish - although Lovikka village is located in the Swedish side of the border in the Tornio river valley area, which is an area specific in it's own dialect and cultural features, never mind the border line. :) oo, fantastic knits!
